Curriculum - Kindergarten

The Legacy Christian Academy Kindergarten curriculum introduces and develops basic academic skills in reading, language arts, penmanship, writing, and mathematics. Critical thinking skills are incorporated into the curriculum and new concepts and techniques are presented sequentially. To balance the program, children use manipulatives and work in centers and cooperative groups.

Curriculum - 1st Grade

The Legacy Christian Academy first grade curriculum encourages students to develop fluency and confidence in oral reading and in basic number facts of addition and subtraction. At this grade level, students are given their own copies of selective literary selections which are read orally and discussed as a class with the teacher. The teacher introduces writing skills through creative writing and composition. There is continued emphasis on enrichment activities and the use of work centers.

Curriculum - 2nd Grade

The Legacy Christian Academy second grade curriculum reviews, reinforces, and introduces concepts while preparing students for the independence required for the third grade. The academic day is extended thirty minutes and students complete daily class work independently. Small motor skills are further developed with the mastery of cursive writing. Students are formally introduced to the writing process.

Curriculum - 3rd Grade

The Legacy Christian Academy third grade curriculum focuses on the development of self reliance, responsibility, organizational skills, and independent work habits. The primary academic goals are to achieve mastery of the basic facts of multiplication and division and the eight parts of speech. Third Grade further develops writing skills with the continued study of formal paragraph writing, as well as essay writing. Teachers begin a more sophisticated and sequential program in social studies. Students learn reference skills by using encyclopedias, the internet, and other resources. The integration of historical information, class discussions, reference skills, and writing skills help students produce formal reports and oral presentations.

Curriculum - 4th Grade

The Legacy Christian Academy fourth grade curriculum focuses on the development of responsibility, self-reliance, organizational skills, critical thinking, and independent work habits. Students practice their reference skills by writing a Mission Report on California with the assistance of the teacher. The three-day field trip to Sacramento to study the history of the California Gold Rush is an extension of the social studies programs and a highlight of the year. In addition, students learn to further their skills on the recorder as part of their musical education in the elementary school.
