Welcome/Introductions

All of the parents in attendance we welcomed to the PALSS meeting. Parents were asked to sign-in on the roster and verify all information. If you would like to be added to the PALSS roster, please send a note in your child's folder or an e-mail to Brenda Kass.

Old Business

Entertainment Book Sales

The Entertainment Book fundraiser was a huge success. Our total sales exceeded $10,800. Thanks to all of the children who sold books and to the families that assisted.

Operation Shoe Box

Operation Shoe Box was held from November 7th to 14th. We were unable to be a drop site this year as originally planned. This is always a greate project to participate in and we are very proud of our school's generosity in donating the boxes filled with not only toys and goodies but also lots of love.

Box Tops Fundraiser

Our school collected 3395 box tops which is the equivalent to approximately $339. Mrs. Zorichak's class turned in the most box tops and will receive a pizza party. This is an on-going fundraiser, so collect those box tops all year long.

Hurricane Katrina Coin Drive

PALSS collected over $4800. There was $500 in donations in checks written directly to Samaritan's Purse. At the PALSS meeting it was deciede the remaining funds would go to Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network. This was chosen as we were unable to select specific items that we would like the funds to go towards.

Addendum: PALSS dontated $1000 to the Julmist Family who was devastated by Hurricane Wilma (this is the family of one of our couselors in the after school program, Bounce). Additionally, the following items have been purchased so far via the Angel Network's Hurricne Recovery efforts: Full Kitchen, Computer, Picnic Table, Baseballs, Softballs, Baseball Gloves, Bats, Soccer Goals, Soccer Balls, Basketball Hoop, Basketballs, Footballs, Volley Balls, Towel Set, Bath Accessories, Mirror and Hose.

New Business

Restaurant Night

Restaurant Night was held on November 8th and 9th at Charo Chicken and Dip N Dots. The total amount raised will be reported on at the next PALSS meeting.

The Funding Factory is a free fundraising program to help educational and nonprofit organizations raise money through recycling cartridges and cellphones. Olga Campbell will be chairing this fundraiser. More information will be sent home explaining how the program works. If you are donating a large number of items, please contact Olge and she can provide with the boxes that are used to ship the cartridges. For a list of qualifying cartridges and cellphones please visit the funding factory website.

Thanksgiving Feast

November 23rd - PALSS donated the tent for this event.

Sponsor a Family

December 1st - 14th. Legacy is sponsoring 6 families including the family of one of our couselors, Bounce. The last day to donate items or gift cards is Thursday, December 14th. Anne Anderson and Jean Rama are co-chairs for this event. See the Legacy website for more information.

Snow Day

Legacy Snow Day will be held on December 16th. PALSS has purchased sleds and snow boards in previous years that are used for this event.

Capital Projects

The following projects were discussed as possible PALSS expenditures:

  • Music and Science Lab purchases: Coach announced that we would be building two classrooms for the 5th grade. This will free the MPR for Music and Science classrooms. We have found that there are many items that could greatly enhance both the Music and Science curriculum over and above the basic classroom requirements. Ronda will request wish lists from both teachers.
  • Curtains for the MPR: PALSS will consider contributing funds towards the curtains for the MPR to complete the stage renovation project. The drama class is also having some fundraisers to contribute towards this purchase.
  • Foreign Language Lab: Trish Watler will ask Senora Smith if this is something she would be interested in incorporating into her curriculum.
  • Camera for Yearbook Club: Brenda Kass will check with Kim Scarano to find out if this is something that would assist the yearbook staff. Currently, they are using personal cameras.
  • Bleachers: A proposal was made to purchase portable bleachers that can be used during intramural sports. This was approved.

Legacy Academ 2nd Annual Gala/Auction

This year the gala will be sponsored by PALSS at Legacy only. The preschools will be having a separate event. The event will start earlier this year at 5:00 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm. It will once again be held at the Valencia Hyatt in the Grand Ballroom. A save the date flyer will be sent home before the winter break.

Entertainment - Pam Bugbee who is the entertainment coordinator for Magic Mountain has offered to make arrangements for Motor City Magic to perform at the gala. They are a 10-piece group with singers and musicians. We still need to arrange for sound so if anyone has connections, please contact Ronda Chobanian.

Solicitors - Pam Capistrano will coordinate the volunteers to solicit donations. She will collect, tag and document items collected for entry into our auction database. If you have any items that you are able to donate, please contact Pam or any of the PALSS board members. We have a storage unit available to keep any items until the auction.
Gifts from the heart - Letter to the teachers to donate their time. - Pam Bugbee.

Classroom Baskets - the Party Moms will create the classroom baskets. A volunteer is needed to coordinate and send communication regarding the collection of the baskets from each classroom. If you are interested, please contact Ronda or any of the PALSS board.

Art Projects - We asked for volunteers to both coordinate the art project for each classroom and to coordinate the collection of the items from each class. Following are the parents who have volunteered so far. If you are interested in helping your class, please contact the people listed of if no one is listed and you would like to be the class coordinator, please contact any of the PALSS board.
All ideas for art projects must be submitted to the PALSS board for approval. Items purchased to complete the projects will be reimbursed by PALSS. The budget is still to be determined.
